I think I speak for everyone at Capital Electric when I say that one of our favorite things about this company is the sincere focus on personal relationships. Vendor, customer, co-worker… regardless of the professional title, we are all people. And in my experience, our industry is full of wonderful individuals who are helpful, intelligent, generous, and kind.

This was quite evident during our first Lunch and Learn of the year, when four CommScope representatives stopped in to talk with 30 Capital Electric customers about some of their cutting edge products. The theme of the day was ‘Emerging Technologies,’ and the push for energy efficiency is a must-have within that conversation. Just for insight: Last December, Forbes cited a survey undertaken by software company Ecova; it found that 57% of the roughly 500 executives polled plan to spend more time and money in 2015 on technologies that can help them gain control of their energy costs. These expenditures make up a good chunk of any company’s daily output, and will only continue to rise in the future.

No surprise, then, that there was a fair amount of buzz related to CommScope’s Redwood Systems, a portfolio of intelligent lighting network solutions. According to CommScope, lighting accounts for about 35 percent of a typical building’s energy use. Rather than rely on commonly used fluorescent fixtures that only brighten the space, building managers can choose options, such as Redwood, that will improve building intelligence on a practical level, plus cut energy costs by 75 percent or more.

Attendees also had a chance to take a sneak peek at ION-E, another industry game changer. While 80% of mobile connections are made from inside a building, only roughly 2% of the world’s commercial space is covered from the inside. That number is going to grow with the advent of ION-E, an unparalleled system that unites licensed wireless, power, and Wi-Fi into a single wireless network.

Helpful, intelligent, generous, and kind… there are no better words to describe our guest presenters for this Lunch and Learn: Ilan Shakked, Director of Technical Sales – Central Region, Mike Williams, Technical Sales Manager, Matt Towles, Territory Sales Manager, and Steve Wagner, Territory Sales Manager. All of us at Capital Electric thank you for sharing so much valuable information with us.

There was one, unexpected hit of the day: Our homemade shrimp gumbo. We try and prepare food that will hopefully be enjoyed by everyone, but the ‘ooohs’ and ‘aahhhs’ centered on this dish took us by surprise. We are so glad you liked it as much as we do! And if you just couldn’t get enough at the Lunch and Learn, we’re including the recipe so you can make it whenever the craving hits.

Thanks to one and all for a fabulous Friday! We can’t wait for the next one; watch here, our social channels, and The Wire for details regarding the coming Lunch and Learn in April.
